Motorola Droid Review: These ARE the Droids you're looking for

The Motorola Droid has literally just come out 2 days ago, and Amazon is ALREADY delivering it to you for cheaper than Verizon directly at a special sale price of $150 with a contract. But the question remains: if you can't have an iPhone, is this the phone you should get? I'll tell you upfront, the answer is likely yes.

Pros:

Likes to be touched: The touchscreen is huge at 3.7" and is very intuitive to the touch, unlike the Verizon Blackberry Storm 2 which you have to actually PRESS to get to work. Everything shows up crisp and clear in either a vertical or horizontal format.

It's yours: The Droid is totally customizable, it doesn't feel like you got everyone else's phone, it really feels unique as your own. From the background to the tones, this is meant to be YOUR phone and no one else's.

All in one: One of the biggest selling points of the Droid is that it can do a lot of things the iPhone can't. I.E., it has a 5mp camera WITH LED flash, it has the nations biggest 3g network (unlike ATT which can be very spotty) and has a built in qwerty keyboard so even if you don't want to use the touchscreen, you don't have to. It also can do video capture (which the iPhone 3Gs can do, but you don't have to worry about having hardware that's limited by the carrier in this case).

Swap it: Another great feature of the droid is that you can actually swap the battery and add additional memory from its standard 16gb microsd memory card, 2 things the iPhone DOESN'T let you do. Granted the battery is meant to last a reasonable 6.4 hours of talk time, it's nice to have the option of having back up power and memory for once.

My android's better: The Droid comes with the latest version of Google's Android OS, 2.0, and you do notice a difference between older versions and this one as it processes a LOT faster. This is also the first phone to use Android 2.0

Cons:

It's clunky: The one thing I really don't like about the Droid is that while it is SLIGHTLY thinner than an iPhone, it feels really clunky. The edges are rough, and the design with the qwerty keyboard in the back can make it look less appealing in the aesthetics department. However, if you like the phone, this is something that you'll likely be able to push aside without much issue.

Follow the leader: Another downside is that while this IS a fantastic phone, without a doubt, it's always hard to NOT compare any phone on the market to the iPhone. As such, while Google/Verizon/Motorola have made a very good effort, you will notice that this just isn't the same kind of experience. I went to try an iPhone right after to compare to, and you do notice that while Google did a GREAT job on this, they're not "quite" up to Apple's quality just yet. This WILL be remedied by an android app market that is rapidly growing and a very consumer friendly OS producer, Google, who know that their job is never over in pursuing customer satisfaction.

Should this deter you from getting this if you're not on ATT? ABSOLUTELY NOT. This is very likely the best non-ATT/Apple smart phone out there today. I would say to maybe wait a month for Verizon to work out the initial kinks, but if you're tyring to get it at a deal then right now is the time to do it, especially at $150 where it's cheaper than in store!

As this is a cellphone review, I'm going to leave it at just a score rating

Score Ratings - HORRIBLE - Pass - Meh - Good - EPIC
